One of the biggest annoyances of living in Malta was bottled water. The tap water tastes so strong of salt and chlorine that no Brita filter could take the taste away. You options are to either use an osmosis filter or buy bottled.

Bottled water was the only affordable option at that moment. You go through a lot of bottles. Especially with 35 degrees summers. Being conscious about the whole waste and plastic crises. I didn’t want to throw them away and figured there must be something I can do with it.

I tried some bottles as planters and tried to build a small greenhouse. But the Maltese sun is so strong that the poor plastic quality bottles quickly starts to deteriorate.

So I figured, whatever use, it needs to be out of the sun. What if we use it to float on? Let’s build a raft! 😀 In a year time we had about 700 empty 2 liter bottles. Picked up some pallets (the once used for drywall, they are 3 meters long). And started building
